Stoke Park Golf Club is home to a distinguished 27-hole championship course set within 300 acres of historic Buckinghamshire parkland. Originally designed by renowned golf course architect Harry Colt in 1908, the course is celebrated for its strategic layout, mature landscape and enduring architectural character.
Widely regarded as one of the UK’s most prestigious golfing destinations, Stoke Park combines technical challenge with exceptional natural beauty and has played host to a number of notable tournaments and events throughout its history.

HERITAGE RESTORATION, INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & BESPOKE BATHROOM DESIGN

Living Space Design was appointed to contribute to the comprehensive renovation of Stoke Park Mansion, a significant historic residence set within the landscape of Buckinghamshire.

The project required a highly considered response to the existing architecture, balancing the integrity and character of the original building with the expectations of contemporary luxury living. Every intervention was approached as part of a wider architectural composition, with careful attention given to proportion, materiality, detailing and the relationship between old and new.

Rather than treating individual rooms in isolation, the design strategy considered the mansion as a complete interior environment. Spatial planning, architectural finishes, bespoke joinery, stonework, sanitaryware, brassware and decorative elements were developed to create continuity throughout the residence while allowing each space to retain its own identity.

At the heart of the project was the design and delivery of ten individually conceived bathrooms. Each was developed in response to its position within the mansion, the architectural character of the surrounding rooms and the requirements of the suite it served.

The principal bathroom was conceived with a stronger sense of scale and ceremony, while guest and secondary bathrooms adopted a quieter, more intimate character. Despite these differences, a consistent design language runs throughout the scheme, expressed through carefully selected natural materials, bespoke detailing and a restrained approach to luxury.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATION & SUPPLY

A significant part of Living Space Design’s involvement centred around the specification, sourcing and supply of materials and specialist products throughout the project.

Working closely with the wider design and construction team, we developed a carefully coordinated material palette that responded to the historic character of the mansion while introducing the quality, performance and refinement expected within a contemporary private residence.

Natural stone formed an important part of the scheme, with individual finishes selected for their colour, veining, texture and suitability within each space. Materials were reviewed not only for aesthetic consistency, but also for scale, installation requirements, durability and their relationship with surrounding architectural finishes.

Our supply package extended across sanitaryware, brassware, bespoke bathroom furniture, specialist stone, tiles, surfaces and associated finishes. Products were sourced from a combination of leading international manufacturers, specialist suppliers and bespoke workshops, allowing each element to be selected specifically for the architectural language of the property.

Where standard products could not achieve the required proportion or level of detail, bespoke pieces were developed to suit the individual rooms. This included custom vanity units, made-to-measure stone elements and specially selected finishes designed to complement the wider interior scheme.

The material procurement process was carefully managed from specification through to delivery. Samples, finish references and technical information were coordinated to ensure approvals could be made with confidence before manufacture and installation commenced.

Particular attention was given to consistency across materials supplied at different stages of the programme. Natural stone, specialist finishes and decorative surfaces were reviewed to maintain continuity of tone, pattern and quality throughout the mansion, reducing variation and ensuring the completed interiors felt visually coherent.

We also worked closely with manufacturers and fabricators to coordinate lead times, production schedules and site delivery requirements. This was particularly important where bespoke pieces, specialist finishes and large-format materials needed to be integrated into a complex construction programme.

MATERIALITY & CRAFTSMANSHIP

Materiality played a central role in defining the character of the interiors.

Stone, metal, crafted furniture and specialist finishes were selected not simply as decorative surfaces, but as architectural components in their own right. Their scale, junctions, texture and interaction with light were carefully considered to reinforce the sense of permanence and refinement throughout the building.

The relationship between materials was equally important. Brassware finishes were coordinated with ironmongery and decorative metalwork, stone selections were considered alongside joinery and flooring, and bespoke furniture was developed to sit naturally within the proportions of the rooms.

This approach ensured that each bathroom formed part of a broader material language rather than appearing as an isolated installation.

BESPOKE DEVELOPMENT

Bespoke elements were developed to ensure that proportions, finishes and detailing were appropriate to the scale and character of the property.

Working with specialist craftspeople and manufacturers, we were able to refine individual pieces through drawings, material samples and finish development before final production. This allowed contemporary functionality to be introduced without compromising the sense of craftsmanship and architectural permanence associated with the mansion.

The result was a series of interiors where custom-made and carefully sourced elements sit together as a unified composition.

FROM SPECIFICATION TO INSTALLATION

Our role extended beyond the initial design and product selection.

Through close coordination with contractors, installers, suppliers and specialist fabricators, we helped manage the relationship between specification and execution. Technical requirements, dimensions, installation details and material interfaces were reviewed throughout the project to support an accurate and efficient installation process.

By controlling the specification and supply of key bathroom and surface packages, Living Space Design was able to provide continuity from concept through to completion, ensuring that the final result remained aligned with the original design intent.

The completed project represents a carefully resolved dialogue between heritage, contemporary interior architecture and specialist craftsmanship.

Through considered planning, material sourcing, bespoke development, technical coordination and managed supply, Stoke Park Mansion was transformed into a coherent residential environment where every space contributes to the character of the whole.

The restoration respects the history and architectural significance of the building while introducing a new layer of refinement, comfort and material richness—creating interiors that feel established, enduring and entirely appropriate to the setting.
